What We Offer

Balance: Restored & Nourished provides psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy and consultative nutritional support for patients 6 to 26 years old.  Transitions in care will be thoughtfully navigated as patients age out of this practice.  However, patients seeking to establish care, who are outside of this age range, will be referred elsewhere.

In an effort to provide cohesive and continuous care throughout childhood, adolescence and early adulthood, Balance: Restored & Nourished provides a combination of psycho-pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic care to all patients throughout treatment course.

Initial Evaluation

All new psychiatric diagnostic evaluation appointments are 90 minutes long. At BRN Care, initial evaluations are designed to be thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in our integrative approach to mental health. Our goal is to understand each child, adolescent, or young adult as a whole person: emotionally, developmentally, physically, and socially.

Step 1: Preparing For Your Visit

Before your appointment, you’ll be asked to complete intake forms and share any relevant medical, academic, or psychological records at least 48 business hours in advance. This allows us to review your history thoughtfully and prepare for a meaningful first visit.

Step 2: Comprehensive Whole-Person Assessment

During your appointment, we will explore emotional, behavioral, developmental, medical, and social factors that may be impacting mental health. For pediatric and adolescent evaluations, caregivers and children or adolescents initially meet together, followed by time spent individually with the patient and caregiver(s) when appropriate, concluding with a shared discussion to review clinical impressions and next steps.

Step 3: Integrative Care Planning

Following the assessment, we share clinical impressions and collaborate with families to develop a personalized care plan. Recommendations may include therapy, medication management, nutritional support, and lifestyle strategies, aligned with each patient’s unique needs.

Step 4: Ongoing Support & Care Coordination

With consent, we collaborate with therapists, schools, and primary care providers to support coordinated, comprehensive care. Follow-up visits allow us to monitor progress, thoughtfully adjust treatment, and support long-term growth and resilience.

Ongoing Medication Management & Therapy

All follow-up appointments are 30 minutes or 60 minutes long depending on whether therapy is provided or not. Follow-up visits are designed to offer thoughtful, integrated support that combines medication management with therapeutic care. These appointments focus on both symptom relief and longitudinal emotional growth.

Step 1: Thoughtful Check-In & Review

Each visit begins with a comprehensive review of symptoms, progress, challenges, and overall well-being. We discuss emotional health, daily routines, school or work stressors, sleep, nutrition, and family dynamics to understand how treatment is working in real life.

Step 2: Collaborative Treatment & Therapeutic Support

We thoughtfully review medications, discuss benefits and side effects, and make adjustments together when needed. Visits also include psychotherapy across modalities to build insight, coping skills, and emotional resilience.

Step 3: Ongoing Integration & Long-Term Support

We continuously refine your care plan by integrating medication, therapy, and lifestyle support. Follow-up visits help ensure treatment remains balanced, effective, and aligned with each patient’s evolving needs and goals.

Consultative Nutritional Support

BRN Care strongly believes that nutrition can be as impactful on mental health outcomes as therapy and medication may be by fostering emotional resilience, brain health, and regulatory skills. BRN Care has partnerships in place with leading dietitians and nutritional psychiatry experts to complement and support each patient’s care. Incorporating nutrition into mental health treatment can have a number of long-lasting benefits including:

Support long-term mental health.

A healthy, balanced diet promotes brain health and emotional stability, reducing the risks of future mental health crises and relapse in those with chronic conditions.

Enhance therapy outcomes.

A nutrient-rich diet can enhance the effectiveness of therapeutic treatments, helping clients achieve improvements in mood, cognitive function, and emotional regulation.

Improve medication efficacy.

Proper nutrition can help optimize the effectiveness of psychiatric medications, leading to better outcomes and fewer side effects.

Policies and Procedures

Our policies and procedures are designed to support respectful, transparent, and consistent care for all patients and families. They help ensure appointments run smoothly, communication remains clear, and every visit reflects our commitment to patient-centered care.

Families are kindly asked to cancel at least 24 business hours in advance so the time may be offered to another patient. Late cancellations and no-shows are subject to a $50 fee, which will be waived in cases of significant illness or emergencies pending notice is provided as soon as possible. BRN Care makes every effort to be prepared for each appointment and, if technical difficulties arise, will attempt to connect and call the provided number about five minutes into the scheduled session, if needed.

At this time, BRN Care is a fully virtual practice, with plans to open an in-person location in the near future, and does not prescribe stimulants or other controlled substances. To ensure virtual visits are meaningful and effective, pediatric patients are asked to have a parent or guardian join for part of each appointment. Family members or guardians may participate from different locations when helpful. In accordance with tele-health regulations, patients must be physically located in Massachusetts during their visit and should join from a quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection. If significant technical challenges interfere with communication, rescheduling may be recommended to ensure the full benefit of care. For everyone’s safety, patients and caregivers should not be driving during virtual appointments.

BRN Care is mindful of prescribing sufficient medication refills to last until the next scheduled appointment, whenever possible. If a refill is needed between visits, families are asked to allow at least 48 business hours for refill requests to be processed. Advance planning is encouraged since BRN Care is not open on weekends or federal holidays. In general, patients should contact the practice when they have a one-week supply of medication remaining with no refills, particularly if the next appointment is more than one week away. Please note that a prescription may not be provided at the end of an initial evaluation if additional assessment is needed.

BRN Care does not offer routine clinical services outside of regular business hours. Messages and requests received after hours, on weekends, or on holidays will be addressed on the next business day. This practice allows providers to remain fully present and attentive during scheduled visits. If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, please contact 911, visit your nearest emergency department, or call 988 for immediate support.

BRN Care is legally and ethically required to follow mandatory reporting laws to protect the safety and well-being of children, adolescents, and vulnerable individuals. This means that if there is reasonable concern about abuse, neglect, or risk of serious harm to a patient or others, appropriate authorities may be notified in accordance with state and federal regulations. Whenever possible, BRN Care strives to discuss these concerns openly with patients and families so as to approach reporting in a transparent, supportive, and respectful manner.
